Hania Aamir Speaks Out on Digital Scrutiny and Misogyny
Hania Aamir, Pakistan’s National Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women, opened up about the challenges of navigating public life as a woman in a digitally scrutinized world. Speaking at the 16 Days of Activism Against Digital Violence event in Islamabad, she reflected on how societal expectations and online misogyny shaped her perception of self.
“Somewhere along the way, I was made to feel like being too much was a flaw — too loud, too soft, too ambitious, too visible,” she said. She urged women to reject societal pressures, stating: “We are not born to fulfil anyone’s fantasy. We are human beings and we will live as we want.”
Aamir also highlighted the unequal standards women face publicly compared to men and emphasized the importance of human rights and autonomy, thanking UN Women for reinforcing her belief in existing on her own terms.
