Jesca Hoop Announces New Album Long Wave Home, Shares Lead Single “Designer Citizen”
Jesca Hoop has announced her forthcoming album, Long Wave Home, and shared its lead single, “Designer Citizen,” accompanied by a new video directed by James Slater. The record marks Hoop’s seventh full-length release and follows her 2022 album Order of Romance. Last year, she also revisited earlier material with Selective Memory, a reimagining of her 2017 record Memories Are Now.
Long Wave Home represents a turning point in Hoop’s creative process, as she took on the role of producer herself for the first time. Reflecting on the decision, Hoop described stepping away from familiar guidance in order to grow artistically, committing to leading the project independently despite the challenges and long nights it brought.
Lyrically, the album explores interpersonal relationships, emotional volatility, and themes of connection and disconnection in an increasingly fractured world. Hoop notes that significant personal changes in her life informed much of the writing, with songs shaped by loss, estrangement, and the social realities unfolding around her. Tracks such as “Caravan” examine the risks of emotional reliance, while the title track addresses modern alienation driven by technology. “Playground” stands out as a protest song advocating for the children of Gaza.
The recording process itself mirrored the album’s restless spirit. Hoop traveled across England in a camper van, recording in studios from London to the Isle of Wight, Bristol, and Manchester. Along the way, she collaborated with engineers including Leo Abrahams, Jim and Rob Homes, Jim Barr, and Tim Thomas, and enlisted musicians such as Sebastian Rochford, Jon Thorne, Sam Amidon, Jesse D Vernon, and others to shape the album’s sound.
After weeks on the road, Hoop returned to Manchester to assemble the recordings into the final album. She describes Long Wave Home as both a renewal of her dedication to songwriting and a declaration of independence—an investment in herself as an artist and in her creative future.
