Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khalda Zia has died at the age of 80

Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khalda Zia has died at the age of 80. According to reports, Khalda Zia was suffering from several diseases, including liver disease, and had been undergoing treatment in the hospital for a long time. However, she passed away today at 6 am local time in a hospital in the capital Dhaka.
Yesterday, doctors had described her condition as very critical. In this regard, Dr. Ziaul Haq, a member of the medical board treating her, said that Khaleda Zia has been kept on life support and is undergoing regular dialysis.
He said that whenever dialysis is stopped, her condition deteriorates significantly. He said that due to her advanced age and multiple complex diseases, it was not possible to treat every disease at once.
Khalda Zia was a well-known politician of Bangladesh, who served as the country's Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996 and then from 2001 to 2006.
She was the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the second female Prime Minister in the Muslim world after Benazir Bhutto.
Khaleda Zia was the wife of former Bangladeshi President Zia-ur-Rehman. During her political career, she was accused of corruption. She also had to serve 5 years in prison in 2018.
She also had a long political rivalry with Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina Wajid. Sheikh Hasina Wajid finally had to leave the government last year.
It should be remembered that Khaleda Zia's son and interim chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Tariq Rahman, returned to the country a few days ago after ending his 17-year exile. His return came at a time when important elections are about to be held in Bangladesh.
Tariq Rahman had gone to the UK in 2008 for medical treatment and other reasons after 18 months in prison.
