Zelenskyy to Unveil Election and Referendum Plan on February 24
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to announce a plan for holding presidential elections alongside a national referendum on February 24, according to a Financial Times report citing Ukrainian and European officials involved in the discussions.
The proposed referendum would focus on a potential peace agreement with Russia. Under a framework reportedly being explored by U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators, any peace deal would be put to a public vote. Ukrainians could cast ballots in both the referendum and national elections at the same time.
Reuters previously reported that officials have discussed the possibility of holding the elections and referendum as early as May.
The Financial Times added that preparations are already underway, with Ukrainian and Western officials familiar with the matter confirming that planning has begun.
