T20 World Cup 2026 Pre-Match Controversy: Namibia Claims Disadvantage Against India
Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has voiced concerns over what he perceives as an unfair training schedule ahead of his team’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash with India at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on February 12.
Erasmus criticized the ICC for not granting Namibia any night practice sessions before the 7 PM game, while India received two floodlit training sessions. Namibia’s squad, with limited experience under international-standard lights, now faces a potential disadvantage on a Delhi pitch known for favoring the chasing side.
“We haven’t had a night session before this game. India had two, and I see Canada now has one as well. We’ll just do it the Namibian way and fight,” Erasmus told reporters.
Namibia, coming off a defeat to the Netherlands, will rely on JJ Smit and Erasmus’ leadership to challenge the defending champions. Meanwhile, India, buoyed by a win over the USA, may be without opening batter Abhishek Sharma, giving Sanju Samson a potential chance to step in. With Jasprit Bumrah expected back, the clash promises to be a high-stakes encounter.
