T20 World Cup Worry: Abhishek Sharma Admitted to Hospital Ahead of Group Match
Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with an upset stomach ahead of India’s T20 World Cup Group A match against Namibia, a cricket board official confirmed on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old left-handed opener, a key figure in India’s title defense, missed training after carrying a stomach issue from the opening game in Mumbai. He was admitted to a Delhi hospital on Tuesday.
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate expressed cautious optimism, stating that Sharma “still has a few issues with his tummy” but hoping he will be fit to play in the coming days.
Sharma had a disappointing outing against the United States, going out for a duck, but remains a strong performer in the lead-up to the tournament.
India will next face arch-rivals Pakistan in a blockbuster match on Sunday, following Pakistan’s reversal of its earlier decision to boycott the game. The move came after ICC negotiations, consultations among national leaders, and interventions from friendly nations like Sri Lanka and the UAE.
