Uzbek President Mirziyoyev Arrives in Islamabad for Two-Day State Visit
Uzbek President to Meet Zardari, Hold Talks with PM Shehbaz, Address Business Forum
Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Islamabad on Thursday for a two-day state visit to Pakistan from February 5–6, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received President Mirziyoyev at Nur Khan Airbase. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan were also present.
During the visit, President Mirziyoyev will meet President Zardari, hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and address the Pakistan–Uzbekistan Business Forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Talks will focus on reviewing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation in trade, energy, defence, education, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity.
The Uzbek president is leading a high-level delegation comprising senior ministers and prominent business leaders.
The Foreign Office noted that this is President Mirziyoyev’s second visit to Pakistan, reflecting the upward trajectory of bilateral ties rooted in shared history, faith, and common aspirations for peace and prosperity in Central and South Asia.
Pakistan and Uzbekistan continue to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations, with frequent high-level exchanges. Earlier this week, both countries agreed to fast-track efforts to boost bilateral trade to $2 billion during the 10th session of the Pakistan–Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission held in Islamabad.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over steady progress in trade and investment cooperation, reaffirmed their commitment to the preferential trade agreement, and agreed to expedite institutional mechanisms to meet the $2 billion trade target. Discussions also highlighted trade facilitation, logistics, customs digitalisation, transit trade, regional trade corridors, enhanced business-to-business engagement, and improved visa facilitation for business communities.
