Trump Administration Seeks $1bn Damages From Harvard University
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the government wanted “nothing further to do, in the future, with Harvard University,” though he did not specify the damages allegedly caused by the school.
The move follows the administration’s December appeal of a court ruling that found it had unlawfully terminated more than $2bn (R31.85bn) in federal grants to Harvard, preventing further cuts to the university’s research funding.
Harvard has been a key target in the administration’s broader effort to use federal funding to push policy changes at US universities, which Trump has accused of promoting anti-Semitic views and “radical left” ideology.
Trump said last year that negotiations with Harvard were close to a deal that would have included a $500m (R7.96bn) payment by the university.
