Russian Missiles Strike Ukrainian Capital; Residential Areas Hit
Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, was struck by what officials described as a “massive” Russian missile attack early Thursday, with multiple sites across the city hit.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that the large-scale assault on the capital was ongoing. According to him, both residential and commercial buildings on either side of the Dnipro River were affected.
Debris from intercepted missiles fell near two apartment buildings in one district, though no fires were reported and there were no immediate reports of injuries. Emergency medical teams were dispatched across the city.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed at least one strike in an eastern suburb of the capital. Witnesses reported hearing several explosions throughout the city.
The southeastern city of Dnipro was also targeted, regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha said. He noted that several private homes and vehicles were damaged, but there were no initial reports of casualties.
Air raid warnings remained in place in both Kyiv and Dnipro well past midnight.
