Imran Khan Health Concerns: PTI Approaches Supreme Court for 10th Time
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday once again approached the Supreme Court, requesting the release of party founder Imran Khan’s medical report and permission for his family members and personal doctors to meet him.
The move comes days after reports about Imran Khan’s medical treatment appeared in the media, following the government’s confirmation last week that the former prime minister had been treated at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed concern over Imran Khan’s health, stating that the party had submitted a memorandum to the Supreme Court registrar seeking access for his personal physicians and family, along with his medical records.
The memorandum reiterated PTI’s demand for immediate access to Imran Khan for his family, doctors, lawyers and close associates. Gohar noted that this marked the 10th time the party had approached the apex court on the matter, in addition to 16 petitions filed in various high courts.
Describing Imran Khan’s health as a matter of national concern, Gohar said the party had yet to receive any details regarding his medical condition or the procedure he recently underwent. He added that no meetings with family members, lawyers or personal doctors had taken place on Tuesday or Thursday.
Gohar further said that despite a letter written by National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, requesting personal intervention to allow Imran Khan’s examination by trusted doctors, no response had been received.
As a result, PTI has again appealed to the Chief Justice to ensure the release of Imran Khan’s medical report and grant immediate access to his personal doctors, citing the need for reassurance for his family, the party and the public.
Meanwhile, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had stated last week that Imran Khan was taken to PIMS on the night of January 24 for a brief medical procedure, which was carried out with his consent before he was returned to Adiala Jail with medical instructions.
PTI has criticized the transfer as being carried out without informing the party leadership or family members and for denying access to personal physicians. PTI leaders and supporters staged a protest outside the Supreme Court on Friday, demanding that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his doctors.
Following the protest, the party said that Imran Khan’s family would be provided with a copy of his medical report.
