Ramazan Moon Likely to Be Sighted on February 18, 2026

The Ramazan moon is expected to be sighted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with weather conditions favorable across most parts of Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The PMD’s Climate Data Processing Centre noted that “according to astronomical parameters, there is a fair chance of sighting the new moon of Ramazan 1447 AH on the evening of February 18,” which corresponds to 29 Shaban 1447 AH in the Islamic calendar. The moon’s birth will take place on February 17 at 5:01 PM, and skies are expected to remain partly cloudy or clear, increasing the likelihood of observation.

The PMD has also shared moon sighting timings for different regions: Azad Jammu & Kashmir – 6:58 PM, Balochistan – 7:47 PM, Sindh – 7:24 PM, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – 7:13 PM, Punjab – 7:08 PM, and Gilgit-Baltistan – 6:53 PM. Earlier predictions indicated that Ramazan would likely begin on February 19, while Eidul Fitr may be observed on March 21, based on astronomical calculations.

Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council Secretary General Khalid Ijaz Mufti emphasized that while these predictions are reliable, the official start of Ramazan will be confirmed only by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee following authentic moon sighting testimony. This ensures that the beginning of Islamic months is determined according to proper religious protocol.

Ramazan is a month of spiritual reflection, fasting, prayer, and charity for Muslims worldwide. From dawn to sunset, participants abstain from food and drink to practice self-discipline and focus on spiritual growth. The holy month concludes with the joyous celebration of Eidul Fitr, marked by community gatherings, feasts, and acts of generosity.
