Steve Smith Becomes Most Expensive Player in PSL History
Australian star Steve Smith has become the most expensive player in Pakistan Super League history after signing with new franchise Sialkot Stallionz for PSL 11. Smith will earn over USD 500,000 (Rs140+ million)—double the salary of Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
The 11th edition of the PSL is scheduled for March, and for the first time, franchises were allowed to directly sign one foreign player who did not feature in last season’s tournament. Taking full advantage, Sialkot Stallionz secured Smith despite competition from another franchise offering a similar deal.
With the addition of two new teams, the PCB has reduced player retention from eight to four per franchise. While official salary figures have been released, sources suggest some players negotiated higher pay behind the scenes as demand surged across teams.
