French President Will Not Stay in Office for Long: Trump
US President Donald Trump has shared a private message sent by French President Emmanuel Macron on social media and said that Macron will not stay in office for long.
According to a foreign news agency, the US efforts to gain control of Greenland have caused severe tensions in relations between Europe and the US.
The issue has spread anxiety in Europe, while financial markets have also seen turmoil. French President Emmanuel Macron has taken a tougher stance on the issue than most European leaders and has urged the European Union to activate its strongest trade measures against the US.
Donald Trump also appeared angry at France’s decision to hesitate to join Trump’s proposed ‘Board of Peace’. Macron had expressed reservations about the potential impact of this board on the role of the United Nations.
When Trump was asked about Macron’s stance, he said, ‘Did he really say that?’ Well, nobody wants him anyway because he’ll be out of power very soon,” Trump added. “I’ll put a 200 percent tariff on French wine and champagne, then he [Macron] will join, even though he doesn’t have to.”
Hours after making the statement, Trump shared a screenshot of a private conversation he had with Macron on his social media platform. In the conversation, Macron wrote that he didn’t understand what Trump wanted to do about Greenland and that he had offered to host a G7 summit, inviting Russia and other countries.
In the message, Macron called Trump his “friend” and said that he completely agreed with him on Syria and that “a lot” could be done together on Iran.
