Residents in Niger’s capital, Niamey, reported loud gunfire and explosions early Thursday near Diori Hamani International Airport. The cause and any casualties are not yet known.

Gunfire Lasted Around Two Hours
Residents reported that the shooting began shortly after midnight and subsided within two hours. Fire trucks were seen rushing to the airport during the early morning.
Calls for Citizens to Take Action
Ibrahim Bana, a military supporter, posted a video on social media urging people to hit the streets to “defend the country.”
