Cameron Smith to Leave Leeds Rhinos After Decade of Service
Leeds Rhinos have confirmed former captain Cameron Smith will leave the club at the end of the 2026 season, saying they “completely understand” his decision to move on when his contract expires.
The loose-forward is set to join Betfred Super League rivals Wakefield Trinity in 2027, bringing an end to a decade-long spell in Leeds’ first-team squad.
A product of the Rhinos academy, Castleford-born Smith made his senior debut in April 2016 and has gone on to register 167 appearances for the club. His recent testimonial match came during last weekend’s 46–16 pre-season victory over Bradford Bulls.
Smith was named Leeds’ Player of the Year in 2023 and captained the side the following season. However, a pair of long-term injuries limited him to just 12 appearances in 2025, eight of those off the bench. After sharing the captaincy with Ash Handley last year, Smith relinquished the role ahead of the new season and dropped from squad number 13 to 17.
