China; Artificial skin for robots ready, will be able to feel pain like humans

Foreign media reports said that scientists led by engineer Yu Yu Gao of the City University of Hong Kong have developed artificial skin that is made with ‘neuromorphic’ technology and works exactly like the human nervous system.

The report said that its biggest advantage is that if the robot touches a sharp or hot object, it will react immediately like a human and immediately shake its hand.

The artificial skin developed by Chinese scientists consists of four active layers and according to scientists, when someone touches this skin, it converts the touch into electrical signals, these signals are just like our nerves send messages to the brain.

Scientists said that if the pressure is light, the robot will perceive it as a slight touch and continue its work, but as soon as the pressure exceeds a certain limit, then the robot will feel it as pain and will react like humans at the same time.

According to the report, the most unique feature of this technology is its reflex system. Usually, every movement of the robot goes through its central processor, which takes time, but this artificial skin has a direct place.

Therefore, as soon as a sharp pain or injury is felt, the signal directly sends a high-voltage pulse to the robot's motors, as a result of which the robot's limbs immediately retract without waiting for instructions from the brain.

According to scientists, this skin has been made not only sensitive but also strong. This skin is made of small magnetic modules that connect like building blocks.

It was further stated about the artificial skin that each sensor unit continuously sends a slight signal to indicate that it is working properly and if any part of the skin is cut or torn, the signal stops, allowing the robot to immediately identify the injury.

It was further stated that although this artificial skin cannot heal itself, with the help of a magnet, the damaged part can be removed in a few seconds and a new part can be replaced.
