A committee will check the shortcomings indentified by IMF
Islamabad: An important decision has come after the IMF identified governance shortcomings. The Prime Minister has formed a committee for economic governance systems.
The Federal Finance Minister has been appointed as the chairman of a 15-member committee. The establishment of the committee is part of the Prime Minister’s economic governance reforms. The committee will submit its report to the Prime Minister on a quarterly basis.
The members of the committee include the Finance Secretary, Law Secretary, Planning Secretary. The members of the SIFC Secretary, IT Secretary, Establishment Division Secretary. The committee also includes the Secretary Law and Justice Commission, Secretary Board of Investment.
The members of the committee include the Chairman SECP, Governor State Bank, Chairman CCP. MD PEPERA, DG Tax Policy Office, Additional Auditor General are among the committee members. The Additional Secretary Finance will act as the secretary to the committee. The Federal Ministry of Finance will provide secretarial support to the committee.
It should be noted that the Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment Report was released in November 2025, in which the IMF said that Pakistan could reap substantial economic benefits from improving governance. Implementing the governance reform package could increase Pakistan’s GDP by between five and six and a half percent.
