Israel Seeks New 10-Year Security Pact With U.S., Shifting Focus From Cash Aid
Israel is set to open discussions with the Trump administration on a new 10-year security agreement aimed at reshaping U.S. military support, according to the Financial Times. While Israel is seeking to maintain strong defence ties with Washington, officials are signaling a gradual shift away from direct cash assistance toward deeper cooperation on joint military and defence projects.
Gil Pinchas, outgoing chief financial adviser to Israel’s military and defence ministry, said future talks would prioritize shared initiatives over traditional grants. He noted that annual U.S. military funding—currently about $3.3 billion—could be reduced over time as the partnership evolves beyond financial aid alone.
The existing memorandum of understanding, signed in 2016 and running through 2028, allocates $38 billion in U.S. military assistance, including funding for weapons procurement and missile defence systems. The U.S. State Department declined to comment outside normal business hours.
